Momentous Day

Today was a momentous day in the life of one Bryan Edward Holder. Bryan has been racing go karts with us since April. Since that time we have run numerous races and Bryan has never managed to finish first. Today looked to be much the same. As a matter of fact he became the first person in backyard racing history to go from first to last in one turn. No lie, Bryan went into turn two in first and came out in 4th. On top of that, turn two is only about 30 feet long. So basically in 30 feet he went from first to last.

But anyway, enough of his lack of driving skills. As the day wound to a close, Bryan was leading with two laps to go. Seth and Mark were closing in and it looked as if he was destined to be passed once again. Seth looked inside and just as he made his move, he tangled with Mark sending his cart up onto Mark's and giving Bryan the victory.

It was a momentous weekend as two of my pupils got their first victories.

Today was filled with several crashes including three different ones that ended up with one cart on top of another. And then there was the big one........ As Seth was going into turn 3 he suffered a catastrophic wheel failure sending his cart into the hardest flip that has happened at the backyard speedway. The ensuing crash completely destroyed the cart. The whole front tie rod was ripped off, the steering wheel was broken clean off, the front steering rod was bent in half, the front frame was bent, and the back axle was bent. Needless to say, that cart has been retired forever. The good news is that he had on his helmet and he walked away with the steering wheel still in his hand.
